A Scorecard for Following Jesus in Your Business

True Success Metrics for Small BusinessHave you ever thought that you’re damned if you do and you’re damned if you don’t being a Christian in business?  The interpretations out in the world about whether it is okay to focus on profits as a Christian business owner are wide and varied.

Maybe one of the problems is that we are too focused on it.  We are looking for the flashing green light.

Whenever I am in a quandary about how to move forward, I find that my stalemate is usually broken if I focus on something else.

Focus on Jesus When Problems Arise

I mentioned the idea of Kingdom metrics in my guest post at Marketplace Christianity, titled Are You a Lukewarm Christian or Full-Throttle Christian Business Owner?

Thinking more about this concept, I made a list of the things that I would want to measure on a daily basis to determine for myself if I was focusing on my Christian values in my business.

And of course, if we are measuring something we need a report or a scorecard, right?   I developed this scorecard to measure how I am doing on a daily and weekly basis.

I kept all of my commitments today.

I treated others the way that I want to be treated.

I was a good steward of company resources.

I held myself and others accountable.

I did my best work to glorify God.

I looked for ways to help those in need.

I was an example of servant leadership.

We were true to our God vision.

I helped other Christians in business.

I served my church and community.

I prayed for my clients, employees, vendors.

You may have many different things that you look at in your business life.

If you were focusing daily to truly follow Jesus in your business what would your checklist contain?

Kingdom Metrics

I believe that if all Christians in business would shift gears and focus on Kingdom metrics, the traditional business metrics would bear fruit.

What do you think?  Is anyone up for the challenge?

I started using it about a month ago Matt. An added benefit I have found is that it helps me to get in the right frame mind each day regarding bringing God into my business. I look at it before I start so I can keep it top of mind and then do my check off at the end of the day.

I also have some monthly and annual scorecards I am developing for an upcoming product.

    Thanks for commenting!
