It’s been almost two weeks since Baton Rouge and its surrounding cities were hit with tragic flooding.
The devastation has been overwhelming. We’re informed of new, and sometimes growing statistics daily.
31 percent of the houses in Baton Rouge were affected by the floodwaters. More than 30,000 people had to be rescued from their homes. At least 13 people have lost their lives.
Even days later, when you drive down streets and through neighborhoods, you see mounds of people’s livelihoods dumped on the sidewalk. Beds. Wood. Tables. Chairs. Carpet. Rugs. Lamps. Photo albums. Clothing. Kitchen appliances.
It’s such a tough sight to see.
What’s not so tough to see–or better yet–what’s been amazing to see is all those who have rallied around each other to help. This devastation has brought our community together in such a strong, unique way.
The needs are so vast and so varied. Thankfully, our community is as well. It is wide-spread and diverse, and it’s nearly impossible to go one day without seeing needs being met, physically or via social media.
For those that are seeking help with specific services, we at Crossroads have some client connections that may be of help to you. We’re reaching out and extending our hand to you in this time of need.
