Video Marketing for Beginners

Video Marketing

It might just be my generation, but I love to watch a good video! Movies, TV, social media… you name it! From streaming services to the rise of Tik Tok, Reels, and now Spotlight on Snapchat, it’s no surprise that video is taking over the marketing and social media game.

Videos are great ways to get quick information, instruction, and even a good laugh. They are also great ways to show off your business’s brand, personality, and point of difference. I recently attended a webinar presented by Keap, a popular sales and marketing CRM platform, that was all about how to make the most of your video marketing. Keap’s small business growth expert, Jackson Smith, broke down some key information for successful video marketing.

Why Should You Include Video in Your Marketing Mix?

Video is the easiest way for people to learn about you and your business. People want to see that you are passionate about your business and truly believe in your product. Video helps your users retain more information and stay on your website longer, and longer website sessions lead to more conversions.

Video is also very important to your website’s SEO (search engine optimization). Google will rank your website higher if you have embedded videos or a Youtube channel. For example, if you own a dog walking business and you have videos on your website and on a Youtube channel and some searches “local dog walking business” on Google, then you are 56 times more likely to be a top result from that search.

Where to Start

Starting a new video project for the first time can be extremely overwhelming. First, you need to decide what type of video you want to make to highlight your product or service. Here are some examples of videos you can start with:

  • Explainer Video: Describe your point of difference! Show how your product or service addresses common problems for your audience.
  • How To: Demonstrate how customers can use your product or service to gain the most benefit from them.
  • Webinars: Educate your audience on a specific theme or topic that relates to your industry.
  • Storytelling: Tell a story that your viewers can relate to! This is a great way to showcase client testimonials, the history of your business, etc.

General Production Tips

How can you make quality videos when all you have is just an iPhone? There is a way, I promise! The most important thing to focus on is the audio. If your video is a little shaky, that won’t deter viewers too much, but if the audio is bad, people will click off your video in seconds. So, how do you optimize your iPhone audio recording capabilities? There are plenty of quality, yet inexpensive, iPhone-compatible microphones available on Amazon. You’ll also want to pay attention to the lighting and background. Video is visual after all so make sure you, or your product, are well lit. You can even get small, external lighting kits to get your videos that extra studio quality.
